Daily Devotion:
"Growing as One Body"
Acts 2:46-47
The Passion Translation
Daily they met together in the temple courts and in one another’s homes to celebrate communion. They
shared meals together with joyful hearts and tender humility. They were continually filled with praises to God, enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord kept adding to their number daily those who were coming to life.
Today, we have a different reason for preserving and protecting God’s people. We do not need to preserve a specific race or nationality, but as believers in Christ, we guard the church because it is the body of Christ. The early church is an example to us of how
we can preserve and protect God’s people. These believers cared for one another by sharing their possessions. They worked hard for unity and community, focusing more on one another than on status or possessions. They gathered together and praised God, growing as one body and increasing in number. When we guard and protect the people of God today, we do so not to keep unbelievers out
but to show the world what it means to believe in Jesus. When the body of Christ lives in the way God designed—in unity and community, encouraging,
exhorting, and uplifting one another—many more people will be drawn into this loving fellowship.
