Daily Devotion:

"Her Love and His Forgiveness"

Luke 7:44

New Living Translation

44 Then he turned to the woman and said to Simon, “Look at this woman kneeling here. When I entered your home, you didn’t offer me water to wash the dust from my feet, but she has washed them with her tears and wiped them with her hair.

What do you see when you look at the people around you? It's pretty easy, especially if we know someone's story, to immediately pick up on a person's flaws or failures. Sometimes when we look at a person, we think of what we've heard other people say about him or her. When the sinful woman entered Simon the Pharisee's home, he saw her sin (Luke 7:39). He knew who the woman had been and everything she had done, and he judged her for it. Jesus wasn't concerned with what Simon knew but with what he saw. He wanted Simon to truly see the woman.

When it comes to looking at other people, judgment and joy could not be further apart. Judgment sees a person's past, her shame, or her in discretions. But there's no joy in judgment. Joy comes when we truly see each individual andbegin to love the way God loves.
