Daily Devotion:

"His Goodness Never Fails"

Habakkuk 1:2-4

New International Version

2 How long, Lord, must I call for help, but you do not listen? Or cry out to you, “Violence!” but you do not save? 3 Why do you make me look at injustice? Why do you tolerate wrongdoing? Destruction and violence are before me; there is strife, and conflict abounds. 4 Therefore the law is paralyzed, and justice never prevails. The wicked hem in the righteous so that justice is perverted.

The beauty of our faith in Christ is that we can live simultaneously in both; we can accept our pain and the brokenness around us and yet be joyful because we know what is and who is to come. When we acknowledge and accept the brokenness of our world, we are more poised to recognize the gravity of what Christ has done for us.

Habakkuk was a prophet in Israel. He presented his honest questions to God, wanting to know what God was doing and why. He was overwhelmed by the evil around him, and he wanted God to intervene.

Habakkuk cried to God for help, asking God why so much injustice and destruction was taking place around him. He knew the only person he could go to for help was the Lord.
