"Joy in the Bridegroom's Voice"
John 3:29-30
New Living Translation
29 It is the bridegroom who marries the bride, and the bridegroom’s friend is simply glad to stand with him and hear his vows. Therefore, I am filled with joy at his success. 30 He must become greater and greater, and I must becomeless and less.
We live in a world where bigger is better, more is never enough, and everyone strives for first place. Someone else always seems to have more, do more, and be more. Satan loves to whisper lies in our ears that lead us to believe thatwe are, somehow, less than.
The constant weighing of less and more wears on a person's soul until all that's left are weariness and discouragement. But the joke is on the enemy because being less is the key to living joyfully. God never intended for life to be some sort of comparison game.
Joy comes when we finally understand it's always been about Jesus. When things go poorly and people want to pity us, we should point them to Him. When things go well and people want to praise us, we should point to Him. Living a life where we choose to become less so that Jesus becomes more brings joy.
