“Miracles are Miracles”

Matthew 14:31 —

The New International Version

“Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”

Some ask, "Why did Peter doubt?" Yet the amazing thing is that Peter Ever climbed out of that tossing boat and tried to walk on water! Maybe We've been too critical of Peter. Wouldn't it be interesting to have heard the Lord's tone when he was chastising Peter? It's hard to believe Jesus was giving him too rough a time. In point of fact, there are any number of circumstances in which there is good reason to doubt. When you think about it, faith makes no earthly sense. If it did, then it wouldn't be faith! Faith is a leap of logic bizarre thought that the mind does not easily accommodate. Consider miracles themselves. Miracles are miracles because they are not natural. What, example, could be more mind-stretching than the incarnation of God? And Certainly the resurrection of Jesus defies all human understanding. If a reason-able person does not have some legitimate doubts along the road to faith, one rightly wonders about the depth of his or her faith. So, believer that you are, what do you have doubts about? Ever wonder How God could allow evil to exist? Or why God lets Satan have what power he has? Or why God doesn't answer all our prayers for the sick and dying among our family and friends? Or if it is really true that we will live on beyond the grave? If you have ever had serious doubts about any of these, join the crowd. It is one thing to step out in faith when the seas around us are glassy calm; another thing altogether to put one foot in front of the other in the face of life's storms.

The question of faith is: If sometimes I have genuine doubts about God, do I stop to consider the sea of doubts I Would drown in if God weren't in the picture at all?
