Daily Devotion:
"Our Distant View..."
Deuteronomy 32:52
New International Version
52 Therefore, you will see the land only from a distance; you will not enter the land I am giving to the people of Israel.”
We should not assume, of course, that every life cut short before a dream is fulfilled implies that a "premature death" (if there is such a thing) is because of sin, as in Moses' case. If our dream is within God's will, it may simply be that God has chosen to use others to accomplish the next phase. No dream or efforts made that are consistent with God's own good pleasure will be unfulfilled or wasted. Are we to think that Jesus' work on the cross was wasted simply because he would not see (through human eyes) his kingdom fully flourish? The good news is that Jesus' triumphant resurrection was our own “distant view" of greater things than earthly dreams. Not even Moses will be denied that eternal Promised Land! So if we are saddened at the thought that we might die before accomplishing all we would like, how can that disappointment possibly compare with the hope of what is yet to come?
The question of current importance is: What foundation will I lay today that others will build on long after I'm gone?
