New Living Translation

5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him. 6 When Jesus came to Simon Peter, Peter said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?” 7 Jesus replied, “You don’t understand now what I am doing, but someday you will.” 8 “No,” Peter protested, “you will never ever wash my feet!” Jesus replied, “Unless I wash you, you won’t belong to me.” 9 Simon Peter exclaimed, “Then wash my hands and head as well, Lord, not just my feet!”

Twelve ordinary men chosen by God changed the course of history. Each had different personalities and came from different cultures and backgrounds. However, when unified by the Holy Spirit, they transformed millions of lives by building and growing the 1st century church. Impulsive and emotional Simon Peter was chosen by Jesus and was transformed into the leader of the disciples. Peter’s years walking with Jesus were spent learning how to surrender his will to the Lord’s and serve with humility. Where is God calling you to serve His people and share His gospel message with boldness and humility? God is willing and able to use all that we are, including our failings, weaknesses, and inadequacies, for His glory. All we must do is surrender and be available to Him.
