"Power Beyond Silver and Gold"

Acts 3:4-6

New Living Translation

4 Peter and John looked at him intently, and Peter said, “Look at us!” 5 The lame man looked at them eagerly, expecting some money. 6 But Peter said, “I don’t have any silver or gold for you. But I’ll give you what I have. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk!”

At some point, every person fails to live up to the expectations of others. In the case of Peter and John in the book of Acts, they offered healing to a beggar who was hoping for money. The man got far more than he expected so the story ended well, but many times it doesn't.

All too often people are left disappointed and disillusioned because they expected something that someone wassimply unable to give. Those disciples, for instance, could not give that beggar gold or silver because the Lord had specifically told them not to take any on their journey (Mark 6:8). We will greatly increase the joy in our lives when we stop expecting people to provide us with the things our souls need.

We can expect the Lord to do the things we need Him to do. We can lay our requests before Him and wait expectantly and joyfully, knowing He hears and will answer. Those expectations are never misplaced.
