Daily Devotion:
"Steadfast Hope"
Hebrews 6:19-20
The Passion Translation
We have this certain hope like a strong, unbreakable anchor holding our souls to God himself. Our anchor
of hope is fastened to the mercy seat in the heavenly realm beyond the sacred threshold, and where Jesus, our forerunner, has gone in before us. He is now and forever our royal Priest like Melchizedek.
What a joy it has been to grow in our understanding of hope over these past few weeks. We have seen how
hope is the confidence to wait on God for good when we cannot see the future. We’ve discovered that endurance is continuing to place our hope in the goodness of God when our circumstances tell us to give up. And, we’ve learned that when our hope endures and remains steadfast, our faith in God’s promises is strengthened.
God is asking us to remain steadfast in hope until the end. That is both the end of our season of waiting and the end of our lives as we continue to walk with Him and trust Him with our salvation. Through endurance, we will see the fulfillment of all of God’s promises. God has graciously given us examples to follow of those who remained
steadfast in hope, enduring through suffering and doubt, to encourage us to do the same. What a blessing that our God does not leave us guessing about what He has planned for us. Like He told Abraham what He would do, He has given us unchanging promises so we can find encouragement as we endure. What a joy to rest in the truth that our God never changes and that He always keeps His promises.
This hope is our anchor. Like an anchor keeps a boat from drifting out to sea, from being tossed about by the current or the winds, hope is the anchor that keeps us tethered to Christ. He keeps us from drifting, from being tossed about by fear, doubt, or lies. We are anchored in Him by our hope.
When our anchor is Christ, it will not fail. He cannot fail because He is the One who has given us these promises. In Him, we have salvation, freedom from sin and death, a relationship with God, abundant life, and good gifts. May we endure no matter what the world or our fears tell us. May we remain steadfast in hope, anchored in Him no
matter what comes.
