Daily Devotion:
“The Call to Humility, Gentleness, and Patience"
Ephesians 4:2
New Living Translation
2 Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love.
Ephesians 4:2 (NIV) states, "Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love." This verse calls us to embody key virtues that reflect Christ’s character. Humility and gentleness are foundational to ourrelationships and community as believers. Paul wrote this letter around A.D. 60 while in prison, addressing the church in Ephesus, emphasizing unity in the body of Christ. The call for humility and gentleness highlights the need forbelievers to prioritize love and patience, especially in times of conflict.
Humility recognizes our own shortcomings and the grace we've received. Gentle strength is vital; it’s not about being weak but rather having control over our emotions and reactions, following Christ's example (Matthew 11:29). Patience, too, requires a heart that perseveres through difficulties, reflecting God’s unwavering love towards us (1 Corinthians 13:4).
As we strive to live out these virtues, let us remember that we are called to bear one another's burdens (Galatians 6:2). This is how we demonstrate the love of Christ in tangible ways.
