"The Folly of Self-Comparison"

12 Not that we dare to classify or compare ourselves with some of those who are commending themselves. But when they measure themselves by one another and compare themselves with one another, they are without understanding.
How often do you find yourself comparing your life to someone else's? Comparison seems to be the name of the game these days. It's tempting to compare our incomes, the behavior of our children, and even our talents to those around us.
The problem with this game is that nobody wins. Either you come up short and feel discouraged, or the other person comes up short and you feel prideful. Either way, God is not glorified when we compare ourselves to one another.
Our goal is to keep up with Jesus and not the Joneses. He's the standard by which we live. We're to be seeking the things that are above and not comparing the things that are below. Let's end the comparison game; it'll never lead to a joyful life. We'll begin to experience joy when we're more concerned with how we compare to our Savior than to our neighbor.
