Daily Devotion:
"The Forbearing Faith…"
1 Chronicles 10:13-14
New International Version
13 Saul died because he was unfaithful to the Lord; he did not keep the word of the Lord and even consulted a medium for guidance, 14 and did not inquire of the Lord. So the Lord put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David son of Jesse.
Ever wonder why God chose not to answer Saul? Could it be that God was in no mood to humor a leader who had so little faith that he shook in his boot sat the very sight of the Philistines? Sometimes our appeals to God expose more lack of faith than faith. Yet Saul's inquiry was also being ignored, says Samuel, because Saul had disobeyed God, particularly regarding the Amalekites. (Samuel might well have mentioned the time when Saul got tired of waiting on Samuel and made the burnt offering himself.) In the most important sense, Saul hadn't truly inquired of God after all. “Inquiring of God" demands a patient faith...and complete obedience.
The question for seekers is: If I grow impatient with God and take spiritual matters into my own hands, can I possibly conjure up anything but trouble?
