"The Full Armor of God"
Ephesians 6:11-17
New International Version
11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground,
and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the
gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
Since we must fight for truth, how are we to overcome the lies of this world? One powerful way is to arm ourselves with the armor of God. Ephesians 6:11-17 describes a Christian’s clothing as a war suit. To stand against the lies of the world, we must put on the characteristics of God. We have hope, because God is the one who gives us
the armor we need.
However, it is our responsibility to clothe ourselves, prepare for, and fight when the battle rages. We are commanded to put on the full armor of God. To overcome the world, every piece is vital. These items include: truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace, faith, salvation, and the Word of God. God’s truth will keep us from falling. Righteousness – or Christlike living – protects us from the
consequences of temptation. The gospel gives us a firm foundation. Faith protects us in all things. Salvation is critical for battle. The Word of God allows us to cut through and destroy any lie we encounter.
So how do we put on the armor of God? Spending time in God’s Word, prayer, fellowship with other believers,
trusting Christ, and sharing the gospel with others all help strengthen our faith. Through these practices, we can resist temptation and have victory over lies. Which piece of armor do you need to remember to put on today?
