Daily Devotion:
"The Giver"
2 Corinthians 9:7
New Living Translation
7 You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.
How does it make you feel to give something to someone else? Think about Christmas gifts, giving to a good cause or even buying someone's meal at a restaurant. It's pretty amazing, isn't it? One morning, as a young woman left the grocery store with her children, an older woman walked up to her. She said that she was on a mission of joy and she handed the young mother a dozen red roses. While it certainly made the recipient smile, the joy was equally evident on then elder woman's face as she walked away.
When we think about the cheerful giver mentioned in Scripture, it's tempting to conclude that a cheerful person tends to be a generous one. While that may be true, the flip side of that is also (and perhaps more) true. A person who gives tends to be a cheerful person. If you find yourself needing a boost of joy in your life, try being generous with your time, gifts, or finances. Become a person who gives and you'll find yourself living a little more joyfully.
