Daily Devotion:
"The Great Commission"
Acts 1:7-8
New International Version
7 He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Jesus’ time on earth had ended. He lived a perfect life, died a sacrificial death to atone for the sins of the world, and rose from the dead three days later.
Before Jesus ascended into heaven He gave His followers a great calling: to be His witnesses. He promised them the Holy Spirit would come (and it did!) and He explained to them how the power of the Holy Spirit would give them the strength to tell the world about Him.
After ascending into heaven Jesus empowered the apostles, and all of His followers, to spread the message
of the gospel. They were to tell the world all they saw Him do and all they witnessed during His ministry. Jesus changed the world, and it was time for the world to know about it. Empowered with the Holy Spirit, the disciples took the message of the gospel to Judea, Samaria, and the farthest parts of the earth, just as Jesus commanded them.
