"The Power of God's Divine Power"
2 Peter 1:3
New Living Translation
3 By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of hismarvelous glory and excellence.
There is a movement that has sought to minimize the role of fatherhood in our society, especially in a father's ability to provide for his family. Because of this cultural mindset weoften struggle to embrace the idea of God's ability to provide. However, this does not change the fact that God can and will continue to provide. Too often it is God who reminds us that He is the Provider. What is at work in our ownconsciousness is the inability to relate to a Father who provides. It dampers our capability to trust, thus making it difficult for us to yield to God. In the beginning, it was not so.
First, Abraham in a conversation with his son Isaac while on their journey to offer a sacrifice on to God stated, "God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” (Genesis 22:8 NIV). Then, Moses in rehearsing the historical events in the lives of the Children of Israel stated that “The LORD your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands. He has watched over your journey through this vast wilderness.
These forty years the LORD your God has been with you, and you have not lacked anything.” (Deuteronomy 2:7 NIV) Conversely, as with the Children of Israel, God has done these actions in our lives. 2 Peter 1:3 confers by stating, “...his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him, that hath called us to glory and virtue.” Knowing that Jesus is myprovider, I can now personalize the words of the psalmist by saying: I will not be forsaken. I will not be seen begging for bread because God is my provider. Furthermore, and in a relative context, my disposition does not change God's position. He is immutable, all-sufficient, the pre-existing one and Jehovah-Jireh (The Lord will provide).
