Daily Devotion:

"The Promise of Resurrection"

Isaiah 26:19

New Living Translation

19 But those who die in the Lord will live; their bodies will rise again! Those who sleep in the earth will rise up and sing for joy! For your life-giving light will fall like dew on your people in the place of the dead!

Sometimes we feel as frail as the dust from which we came. The hurts and heartaches of this world drive us to our knees, and for a moment the dirt of the earth is all we're able to recall. We make ourselves at home in the ashes, and everything seems suddenly fragile.

Yes, like Paul, we have those days when there seems to be no rest for body or spirit (2 Corinthians 7:5). Morning brings exhaustion, and evening brings affliction. Then ten little words change everything: “I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:13NLT). Suddenly we're more than a people of the dust. We're apeople who can rise up from the ashes and dance in the dust. No matter the trial or tragedy, we can say, “I can do everything.”

Though we were formed in the dust, we also carry the God-breath inside of us. The world would have us broken, forever aware of our fragility, and fearful of ever rising again. ButGod desires much more for us. He calls to us through our pain and gives us permission to rise from the dust and shout for joy.

Lord, I won't lie defeated and discouraged in the dust. I'll rise, praise Your name, and shout for joy.
