"The Reliability of Divine Revelation"
2 Peter 1:18-20
New Living Translation
18 We ourselves heard that voice from heaven when we were with him on the holy mountain. 19 Because of that experience, we have even greater confidence in the message proclaimed by the prophets. You must pay close attention to what they wrote, for their words are like a lamp shining in a dark place—until the Day dawns, and Christ the Morning Star shines in your hearts. 20 Above all, you must realize that noprophecy in Scripture ever came from the prophet’s own understanding,
Have you ever been in a place and was assured that there was a divine presence or encounter? For example, you were distressed or cast down about a situation, and began to praise and worship or pray, when suddenly you felt an overwhelming presence of the Lord and the burden you felt lifted or remained the same. However, you got up from yourknees with courage and strength that you never had before. Or, you had a need and as you read the Scriptures, you found the answer in the Word of God, coupled with unexplainable peace. We can have divine encounters through the preachedword, through a song, or even by a word of prophecy. Some of these encounters are obvious while others are not. Our lives can never be the same after these experiences.
Let us reflect on how Paul's life changed after having a divine encounter while travelling on the Damascus road. As we're call, he was the person who persecuted the church and was also responsible for Stephen's death. Now, let us capture the essence of his response. “And he said, who art thou Lord? And the Lord said, I'm Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.” (Acts9:5 KJV). It is clear by Paul's response that not only did he have a divineencounter but also a divine revelation. Therefore, the trajectory of his life was forever changed in a selfless and positive way.
You and I can impact our families, workplace, friends and acquaintances, communities, and world. If we shine by lighting our candles, there is no limit to the divine encounters that will be established. Lives are still being positively changed by Paul's encounter. Let us pause for a moment and reflect. What are we doing with the effects of our encounter?
