Daily Devotion:
"Unclean Lips, Hearts and Minds"
Isaiah 6:5
New International Version
5 “Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.”
Sounds like the apostle Paul, doesn't it – that "chief of sinners" so unworthy to be chosen. And what about that petulant hothead Peter? In fact, what about all those swarthy fishermen-turned- apostles, not to mention Matthew, Levi, the presumably corrupt tax collector? Whoever would have chosen any of them for kingdom service? For that matter the choice of rebellious Israel as God's special people runs counter to all logic. If there is any logic at all in Isaiah's appointment, maybe it is that a nation of unclean lips needed a prophet of unclean lips to effectively communicate the message. Perhaps that's where you and I come me in-we of unclean lips, hearts, and minds. Could God ever use unworthy rubbish like us? If his track record is anything to go by, the answer is yes. Sometimes it takes one hopeless sinner to reach another.
The question for broken vessels is: If God uses sinners just like myself, with which fellow sinners might he be calling me to share the gospel?
