"With God Nothing is Impossible"
1 Samuel 1:15-16
New International Version
15 “Not so, my lord,” Hannah replied, “I am a woman who is deeply troubled. I have not been drinking wine or beer; I was pouring out my soul to the Lord. 16 Do not take your servant for a wicked woman; I have been praying here out of my great anguish and grief.”
What seemed impossible for Hannah was possible for God. Hannah prayed so desperately that the priest
thought she was drunk. Her faith was not overshadowed by her grief; in faith, Hannah asked God for the greatest desire of her heart.
After Hannah cried out to the Lord, she no longer looked sad. She found peace in pouring her heart out to God, to the only One who could change her situation and give her what she hoped for. Hannah’s hope in God’s power, character, and kindness led her to pour out her heart to Him. Her desire was for a child, and her hope was rooted in the One who could meet her desire. If our hope is in our desire being fulfilled, we will often be disappointed. But if our hope is in the One who meets our desires, we can continue to have hope no matter the outcome of our situation.
A faith that believes God will merely meet our needs is one thing, but a faith that believes God also desires to give us good gifts is another. Hannah did not have a faith that
expected God to give her only the bare minimum needed for survival. She trusted in God’s ability and willingness to give her abundantly good gifts out of His generous grace. Let’s put our hope in Him and His gracious answer, no matter what it might be.
