Daily Devotion:
"Your Body and Mind”
1 Corinthians 6:20
Because you were bought by God for a price. So honor God with your bodies.
Read the bestsellers list for books any day, any week, any year, and you will always find multiple health, fitness, and diet books there. Cosmetics and beauty aids have always been a huge and profitable industry, but now much more invasive cosmetic surgery treatments are growing and multiplying yearly. When considering physical fitness as one way to care for your soul, we are not subjecting you to a new assault of unreal and unhealthy expectations of beauty and fitness. Paul's simple admonition is: “Training your body helps you in some ways, but serving God helps you in every way by bringing you blessings in this life and in the future life, too"(1 Timothy 4:8). That suggests that all of us receive benefit from the physical care of our bodies. Benefits of good physical health include More strength and energy to invest in relationships. Increased self-control, which is an important part of Our Christian walk. Sharper mental acumen due to the release of endorphins in your brain. ·Better emotional health. ·Increased self-esteem, which is fed through accomplishing goals.
But I'm so busy already, I don't have time to exercise. Add thirty minutes to an hour of exercise to your life three or four times a week and discover you have more time. But I don't have the energy to exercise. I'm tired. You might be tired by lack of exercise. Physical energy is not a finite quantity, but a renewable resource. Exercise renews it. But I've tried to lose weight before and it didn't work. This Soul matter isn't about losing weight. It's about improving fitness. Don't worry about your weight. But how will this help me grow closer to God? Nothing is more important than your relationship with God. Why not listen to Christian music and pray as you walk, run, lift, stretch, bike, or jump rope?
May your soul grow as you start today to take care of your body and mind!
