1) NAMI Baldwin reorganizing to help families and their loved ones who live with a mental health condition in Baldwin County....affiliate of NAMI Alabama and NAMI (national)

2) 0ne of every 5 people in the US (and the world) lived with a mental health condition whether diagnosed or not....in Baldwin County that is over 40k people and the other 160,000 are family or friends?!

3) We offer Family to Family Education course which is free and runs for 8, 2.5 hr sessions for family members twice a year.  We cover the different mental health conditions, medications, how the brain works and how we as family members can take care of ourselves.  We also offer Family Support meetings where anyone who has a family member living with a mental health condition can share with other family members their frustrations, their fears, and receive support from other family members who have "been there".....our motto is "You Are Not Alone!"

4) We will be offering Peer Education and Peer Support in the next year as soon as we have facilitators trained and certified by NAMI Alabama.

5)  We began our fall education series for the general public this past week (National Mental Health Week) with officers from the Foley Police Department and Baldwin County Sheriff's Department discussing the Crisis Intervention Teams in the respective municipalities around Baldwin County.  Our next meeting, Tuesday, November 2 will focus on the new mental health court in Baldwin County and the difference between it and the civil commitment procedure under the jurisdiction of the Probate Judge.  Probate Judge Harry D'Olive will be speaking and we have invited the new mental health court Judge Scott Taylor.  Rep. Matt Simpson will join us if he does not have a conflict.  December 7th we will spotlight the new mental health coordinator for Baldwin County, Patrice Davis who will share with us how mental health issues are being addressed within the school system.  Her counterpart,  from AltaPointe will be joining her for this important presentation.  These meetings are all at 6:30 pm and will be held in person at the Foley United Methodist Church and on zoom for those who are unable to attend in person.
