The Good News of Easter is that Jesus rose from the grave, but before he could finish His mission He had to die a cruel, brutal, bloody death. He did this to bear all our sins, in the past, present, and future. He literally took them all on His back. He was our sacrificial lamb. He bridged the divide that has existed for so long between God and Man.
