Why are people leaving the church in droves or not even coming in the doors? That is a question that I often ponder. There are many reasons from hurts to not wanting to give up certain habits or ways of life. There are people who think the church is a place of perfect people and they are still messed up. BUT, I think a big reason that people are avoiding the church is because of the way we treat them. Many of those aforementioned reasons are due to what we say when they walk in the door or how they see us treating others or speaking to others. We read about the Pharisees in Jesus’ time and say how terrible they are, when, in truth, we are mirroring their treatment of people. We need to stop, step back, and refocus on the main reason we even have a church: JESUS!
