About Power Up:
Since 2013, Girls Rock! Des Moines has been empowering girls, gender-expansive, nonbinary, trans, and queer youth through music education, innovative workshops, performance opportunities, and creative expression. Our goal is for our youth to explore their inner rocker, develop good habits, and discover what inspires them. We believe that every rocker should share their unique voice with the world because every voice deserves to be heard.
Our return to summer camp in 2021 was so inspiring, educational, and obviously fun that we wanted to share it with a wider audience. Every morning during camp, we started by learning about one of the artists our campers covered in a segment called Power Up. These lessons explored the artists' herstories, musicology, and relevant social justice topics. Lucky for y’all, we thought ahead and recorded everything. Enter Power Up, our brand new podcast. We hope you enjoy this glimpse into our world.
The season premieres on September 1st and new episodes will be released on Wednesdays.
