Seventy-one commands in 13 minutes. That's how many commands were barked at Tyree Nichols while he was tased, sprayed with pepper spray, beaten with fists, kicked, and struck with a baton over and over again. It would have been impossible to comply with the orders of Memphis Scorpion unit police officers. EMTs with the fire department arrived after the beating ended, but provided no real aid. Twenty-five minutes is how long it took for an ambulance to arrive while Tyre suffered on the ground, crying out for his mom. Tyre died 3 days later with immense trauma to his body. Five officers have been charged, at least 6 have lost their jobs, and EMTS have been put on leave. The brutality is horrific. The lack of humanity is appalling.
