Welcome to Woody! This week, Martin continues our study of the letter of 3 John, where John encourages the church to walk in truth, show Christlike hospitality, and imitate what is good.
In today's passage (v 11-13) we hear about Demetrius, who is spoken of very highly by John – as opposed to Diotrophes who is not. What reputation are we cultivating for ourselves as followers of Jesus? Are we known for our love for each other and for God? Are we known for our faithful following of God's word or our generous spirit? It is not so that we can be proud or raise ourselves up – rather, as Paul prays in Galatians, that may we only boast in "the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ".
