Description

This week I spoke with an actual expert in the field of Nordic mythology and history, Dr. Mathias Nordvig. Both a professor and an actual heathen, I’ve always admired Mathias’ perspective and felt he would be perfect to speak with on Outlaw Preaches. In the first half of the episode we discuss the mythology, history and their potential relationship to modern practice-- before diving in to the nuances and reality involved in the politically charged climate of modern heathenry and modern society at large--from secular fundamentalism and politics as a proxy for religion, the concept of "the personal is political," guilt by association and much more.
Dr. Nordvig is cohost of the Nordic Mythology Podcast and author of Asatru for Beginners, Norse Mythology for Kids, and now Volcanoes in Old Norse Mythology, in addition to being an instructor at the University of Colorado, Boulder as part of the Nordic program.
Warning: Mathias sounds great, but my audio is somewhat distorted on this episode due to tech not being able to keep up with our energy. I apologize in advance and I am currently on the hunt for better tech-- on that note, OP is also on the hunt for sponsors! Enjoy the episode.
