Stephen Paré is the son of a nuclear physicist and a learning disabilities teacher. He grew up in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, where his classmates were either the children of scientists or the grandchildren of coal miners. His work begins on an iPad with photographic and glitch applications, painting virtually with his fingers on the screen, then digitally blending in created and found images, and then filtering to integrate, heighten, distort, and enrich his images.
He prints on canvas, wood, and aluminum, adding marks with brushes and pens, so that each picture that results is one of a kind, not duplicatable.
