The church in Antioch of Syria gained the reputation for sending out missionaries to the uttermost parts of the earth. This was the Apostle Paul’s sending church. Humanly speaking, without this church and their obedience to the great commission of Christ, Paul could not have made the status report to the church at Colossae (1:5-6) that the gospel was preached and having impact in all the world. This means that within twenty years of Pentecost, the early churches had obeyed the great commission. The believers at the church of Antioch played a significant role in the work of missions.
