The restoration of the city of Jerusalem and the people of Jerusalem was truly a wonderful work of God. God placed the burden on Nehemiah’s heart, Nehemiah shared it with the elders of Jerusalem and then the people. There was a surge of unity and teamwork as they rebuilt the walls out of the rubble in just fifty-two days. The momentum from this great effort continued as the people hungered and thirsted after God. They assembled to hear the Word of God read publicly and then obediently responded to what they heard. They even signed a public covenant that they would obey the Word of God and not forsake the House of God. All that God had done provided abundant reason to celebrate with gladness, thanksgiving and singing throughout Jerusalem. May we also celebrate what God has done!
