Paul was very burdened for the believers of Colossi after receiving a report from Epaphraditus, one of his young ministry partners. While Paul had never spent time with the Colossians believers, he was concerned that they would continue to to follow after Christ and not be drawn away by false teachers. They taught that believing in Christ alone was not enough for salvation and more knowledge and the keeping of the law was required. Paul wrote this letter to disciple the fledgling believers and teach them the sufficiency of Jesus Christ—He was everything they needed. That being the case, they would need to make the choice to lift their eyes and minds up above all the noise and fix them on Christ and the things of Christ if they were to endure and embrace their God-given purpose.
