Let's explore how clear or unclear our communication skills can help or hinder us.
Choose your words carefully and wisely.
Words matter. They are the most basic building blocks of written and spoken communication. Don’t complicate things by using jargon, technical terms, or abbreviations that people won’t understand. Choose your words carefully and be consistent in your speaking and writing style.
Word choice is an important part of communicating clearly. Imagine curling up in front of the fire with someone you care about and having them listen to every loving word you utter. Now imagine sitting in front of your boss, employee or colleague would you use the same tone and even the same words? Probably not, each audience requires its own level of understanding on your part. Whom are you speaking with and how you speak to them matters. We may use your tonality to make a point. The way we speak to a child may be different than the way we speak to an adult.
