Study Questions
- In many cultures Fatherhood is closely connected to protection. Phil told the story of his dad protecting him with a rake. Tell a story of time when you experienced fatherly protection. Why does it feel so good to be protected? What does being protect say about your worth and value?
- Orphan is a charged word. When the bible talks about orphans, we shouldn’t picture Annie from the musical. In the ancient world orphans were considered a blight. Wild hooligans who would roam around the city stealing, disrupting, and destroying. But God offers them a home. Who in our society feels like the orphans of the ancient world?
- The health of our families is directly corelated to the health of our society. How can the church promote healthy family life in a society that seemingly doesn’t want anything from the church? Do you feel like the church is a family? How could we build a closer church family?
- Phil reminded us that God knows how to give good gifts. What good gifts has God given you? The best gift God gives us is the Holy Spirit. Do you feel like the Holy Spirit is a good gift? Sometimes to feel the goodness of a gift we need a change of heart. What needs to change in us in order to really see God as a good father?
