Title: Nevertheless
Text: 2 Sam 5:1-15

Sermon Specific
- God fulfils his promise to make David king, but it is the tribes of Israel that approach David and assert his leadership. We often forget that God moves and speaks through his community. Name a time when you experienced the affirmation of your community or name a time when you wish they had affirmed you.
- David is the only Israelite king to be called a shepherd. A shepherd was meant to care and protect, not dominate, and control. Why do people in power or with power struggle to be good shepherds? Is power corrupting?
- Have you ever experienced perfect timing in your own life? You took the shot at the perfect moment, you swerved the car just in time, or arrived at work at the opportune time? What makes perfect timing so stressful and yet so satisfying? Do you find God’s timing stressful or peaceful or both at the same time?
- “Nevertheless” is the pivot point in a sentence and in our lives. Jerusalem was held by the Jebusites for hundreds of years. It was considered unconquerable. Nevertheless, David conquered it because God willed it. Do you have a nevertheless moment in your life when God brought about the unexpected? Do you have an unconquered part of your life that you still wait for the “nevertheless” pivot moment from God?
