Unlike the book of kings, we see in the book Chronicles that David carefully chose Solomon. Verse 9 of chapter 22 says, "but you will have a son who will be a man of peace. I will give him peace with his enemies in all the surrounding lands. His name will be Solomon". Actually, this verse makes it sound like David received this long before Solomon was even born. So why did David initially wanted Amnon and then Absalom to become king? Interesting, but whatever the case, David's preparation for this temple that he was likely not going to see was; deliberate and meticulous. He was willing for another to be the one to shine and take the glory. That is one of the qualities of a great leader.
