Today's Bible reading focuses on king Asa's reign and the lessons from there. Asa's story can also be found in 1Kings chapters 15. Reading his accounts from both books actually gives us a better perspective of his story. Lesson one, Asa faced an army of about 1,000,000 men from Ethiopia and Libya, he calls on God and wins despite the fact the odds were against him because he had a much more smaller army. Fast forward to his later days and Asa is again confronted by a much smaller army this time from Israel, an army his own father had previously defeated. And instead of calling on God like he previously did, Asa's response was to hire the king of Aram. The truth is, his plan worked, Baasha the king of Israel fled but God was not happy with the fact Asa turned to men for help rather than him. I learned early in my walk with God that it is not about just winning but how you do. This trend will go on to follow Asa even to his grave. In the last 2 years of his life, he had a serious infection in his feet. And again, the Bible says, he turned ONLY to his physicians. The lesson here is; there is nothing wrong in having plans, especially good ones, there is nothing wrong in consulting your physician, but there is something wrong in ONLY relying on your plans or in your physician. Today's prayer is, Lord, teach me to put my trust in you.
