As king Solomon's reign ends, we see a trend begins as each king after him comes and go. Just as Solomon started so well and seemed to turn away from the Lord only as he became successful and older, most of the kings after him will do the same, they start well, become successful and then turn against God. Our second lesson today comes from the splitting of Israel into the northern and southern tribes. It's a lesson on being careful the kind of counsellors you surround yourself with and from whom you take counsel. If Rehoboam had even simply followed his father's many proverbs and wise word, he would have know better. He would have know for example that, a soft answer turns away wrath. Most of us take our counsels from social media, the reigning culture, what is going on in other people's life, etc, anywhere else but the word of God. We must learn from Rehoboam if we don't want to break our; marriage, family, business, friendship, etc.
