Let's focus on two parts of our reading today; Jesus' discussion with Nicodemus to be born again and John the baptist testimony of Jesus. What does it mean to be born again? Jesus' answer seems different from what many imagine what being born again means, even today. Jesus spoke about nature and about it determining what you can do. In other words, he Jesus, was able to do the things he was doing not just because he was sent by God, but because he was born by the Holy Spirit. Your nature puts a cap on your ability. This one truth is the reason we tell people that Christianity is not a religion, it is a call to change your nature and become another person, a child of God. Secondly, John the baptists testimony is best understood when quoted verbatim; "He, Jesus, testifies about what he has seen and heard, but how few believe what he tells them! Anyone who accepts his testimony can affirm that God is true. For he is sent by God. He speaks God's words, for God gives him the Spirit without limit. The Father loves the Son and has put everything into his hands. And anyone who believes in God's Son has eternal life. Anyone who doesn't obey the Son will never experience eternal life but remain under God's angry judgement." John 3:32-36. Read those words as many times as you can today and let it sink in. The whole world lies under God's angry judgement and the only escape is accepting and believing the Son. No Jesus, no life. No Jesus, no escape. I pray for understanding for you as you meditate on these words in Jesus' name.
