During the conclusion of today's devotional, we prayed together for God to gives a revelation of Jesus and the truth that sets free.
Speaking to the people following him here, Jesus says some truth that they simply could not understand and so could not accept. Let take a look at a few;
"Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
John 8:31-32 NLT.
A true disciple of Christ remains faithful. It is not enough to simply claim I believe and then continue however one likes, no, a true believer remains faithful. The second follows from the first, as you remain faithful, you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.
I have met people who told me, but pastor, I know what the word of God says in this area of my life, why am I not seeing the results I desire? I tell them, remain faithful.
Jesus also told them;
"Jesus told them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, because I have come to you from God. I am not here on my own, but he sent me. Why can’t you understand what I am saying? It’s because you can’t even hear me! For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.
John 8:42-44 NLT.
Up to this point, he had been refraining from speaking plainly but now he tells them who their father was and why. If you are a child of God, you would love Jesus. You would love his word and want to obey it.
