Description

In today's devotional, we see one on the very times that Jesus wept. This event is particularly important because we know it meant a lot to him. Jesus was approaching Jerusalem and suddenly, he burst into tears when he saw the city;
"But as he came closer to Jerusalem and saw the city ahead, he began to weep. “How I wish today that you of all people would understand the way to peace. But now it is too late, and peace is hidden from your eyes. Before long your enemies will build ramparts against your walls and encircle you and close in on you from every side. They will crush you into the ground, and your children with you. Your enemies will not leave a single stone in place, because you did not recognize it when God visited you.”
Luke 19:41‭-‬44 NLT.
Jerusalem, including its walls and the remarkable temple of God was going to be destroyed. This event in history is referred to as the siege of Jerusalem which took place in 70 CE and was started by General Vespasian who later became the emperor. His son Titus was the one who accomplished the destruction of Jerusalem Jesus prophesied. My Emphasis however was on why the events of the destruction happened at all. Jesus said; "your enemies will not leave a single stone in place, because you did not recognize it when God visited you." There is always a consequence whenever people miss their day of visitation, it is akin to missing a scheduled bus arrival.
