In our devotional today, Jesus shares about the events that will take place before his second coming and on the attitude believers living through that time must have;
"Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will never disappear. “Watch out! Don’t let your hearts be dulled by carousing and drunkenness, and by the worries of this life. Don’t let that day catch you unaware, like a trap. For that day will come upon everyone living on the earth. Keep alert at all times. And pray that you might be strong enough to escape these coming horrors and stand before the Son of Man.”
Luke 21:33-36 NLT.
In these verses, Jesus promises that what he is saying was surely going to come to pass. Our first attitude as those watching for his return and who might live through this events is to stay alert and live each day as if he would return.
Secondly, Jesus said to pray to be strong enough to escape these coming horrors that precedes his coming. I believe the words of Jesus that there is a way of escape, whether that means dying or the rapture as some believe, or strength and protection to live through all of the chaos that will come upon the earth, there is a way of escape.
Lastly, he warns them that that day will catch many people unaware like a mouse trap. Sincerely, I don't know how the events of these period will not be clear to even a blind person that Jesus is about to return soon, that will mean he is speaking of something that happens suddenly.
Whatever you believe about Jesus' second coming, stay alert!
