Let's take a look at the crowd that followed Jesus around in today's devotional and why they did. I often say that most of us would not have followed Jesus if we were around when he walked here on earth. The crowds his meeting attracted just did not look like our definition of what church should be. However, the people were looking for something and they knew they could only find it with Jesus. "Later, Levi invited Jesus and his disciples to his home as dinner guests, along with many tax collectors and other disreputable sinners. (There were many people of this kind among Jesus’ followers.)
"
Mark 2:15 NLT. These were more like the most notorious sinners of his days and Jesus explains why because people were talking...I can only imagine some of the things that wouldhave been said about Jesus; friend of tax collectors, wine bibber, etc. Jesus' response is the reason why our churches must attract the same kind of crowd; "When Jesus heard this, he told them, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do. I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.”
Mark 2:17 NLT.
