As we know that taking a good managerial decision requires you to be clear about what you want to achieve through that and optimizing only one thing at a time. Let me illustrate this through an example based on personal experience. Years back, we had the task of ensuring the profitability of a tyre company in a very competitive tyre industry. We set out to achieve this by identifying that the transportation through trucks was the major cost of distribution and then taking the out of box decision of transporting the tyres through train.
