Matthew 1:1 An account of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham:
γένεσις- genesis- the beginning, genealogy
Where did Jesus come from?
John 1:1-5
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 All things were created through him, and apart from him not one thing was created that has been created. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5 That light shines in the darkness, and yet the darkness did not overcome it.
John 1:14 The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. We observed his glory, the glory as the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
μονογενής- monogenēs, only-begotten, only-born, unique
John 1:18 No one has ever seen God. The one and only Son, who is himself God and is at the Father’s side—he has revealed him.
John 3:16 For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:18 Anyone who believes in him is not condemned, but anyone who does not believe is already condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of God.
1 John 4:9 God’s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his one and only Son into the world so that we might live through him.
Jesus is eternally begotten (monogenēs) of the Father.
Jesus is true God of true God, begotten not made.
Jesus is true God because He is not made and He stands outside of time–He was present at creation (John 1).
Colossians 1:13-20
13 He has rescued us from the domain of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of the Son he loves. 14 In him we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
15 He is the image of the invisible God,the firstborn over all creation.
16 For everything was created by him,in heaven and on earth, the visible and the invisible, whether thrones or dominionsor rulers or authorities—all things have been created through him and for him.
17 He is before all things, and by him all things hold together.
18 He is also the head of the body, the church;he is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead,so that he might come to havefirst place in everything.
19 For God was pleased to haveall his fullness dwell in him,
20 and through him to reconcileeverything to himself, whether things on earth or things in heaven,by making peacethrough his blood, shed on the cross.
Revelation 1:12-18
12 Then I turned to see whose voice it was that spoke to me. When I turned I saw seven golden lampstands, 13 and among the lampstands was one like the Son of Man, dressed in a robe and with a golden sash wrapped around his chest. 14 The hair of his head was white as wool—white as snow—and his eyes like a fiery flame. 15 His feet were like fine bronze as it is fired in a furnace, and his voice like the sound of cascading waters. 16 He had seven stars in his right hand; a sharp double-edged sword came from his mouth, and his face was shining like the sun at full strength.
17 When I saw him, I fell at his feet like a dead man. He laid his right hand on me and said, “Don’t be afraid. I am the First and the Last, 18 and the Living One. I was dead, but look—I am alive forever and ever, and I hold the keys of death and Hades.
If we confess Jesus as King, what claim does that make on our lives?
