Jacob is a leader and a teacher of the Nephites. They are struggling and not being as valiant as they should be. Sherem is an anti christ who is teaching the people there is no christ. He seeks out Jacob wanting to convince him there is no Christ, but Jacob has seen angels and his testimony of Christ could not be shaken.
