Description

Things Fall Apart is a well known book in African Literature. It is the first book written that portrays African in our true light. Before Things Fall Apart was written, there were some books written by the colonialist that portrayed Africans as savages who were in need of western enlightenment These books painted Africans in a bad light. So, Chinua Achebe using the igbo society portrayed Africans in our true light. Nigerian Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka described the work as "the first novel in in English which spoke from the interior of the African character, rather than portraying the African as an exotic, as the white man would see him."
