*Have something of value to barter with is another good idea.

A Plan:
Have a plan for any and all contingencies. Safety is always top priority.
A bug-out bag with all the essentials (vac-sealed non-perishable food etc.), including first-aid for each family member is a good idea.
Have a rally point away from the house in case you get seperated during a bug-out sititation.
