Description

By the time I got to form four I was so tired with life I wanted to die. Nothing made sense anymore and because nothing made sense, nothing scared me anymore.

So one day this madam comes to class and asks everyone to go to the field. "We are having an internal running competition so we can select the best runners to represent our school in our upcoming competition." She then looked my way and saw I had my hand raised. "Yes, Mbanacho, what is it?"

"I am going to pass on this, teacher. I have lived with myself long enough to know I cannot run."

"Well, doesn't matter. You still have to participate."

"In running?"

"Yes! Am I speaking in tongues?"

"But I just said I can't run! If this school has any ambition, it will leave me alone."

Well, she took this matter the deputy principal who took it to the principal who just called my father to tell him his son was misbehaving, again.

My father came to school, heard the mashtaka and said, "Sir, I understand what you are saying but he wasn't lying. This boy can't run. I know because we have sent him on errands with clear instructions to run fast but he just walks. If he represents this school you would come last. So if you ask me, he deserves to be rewarded for his honesty."

We were both dismissed. He went home. I went to class. So when I think of my father, I think of him always taking my side, and rightfully so.

We know Father's Day was yesterday, but this episode was dedicated to that special day. Listen in here:
