"#25"
Suicide
Within the past twenty-four years of living in the States, I have been either close to someone or known someone who was responsible for taking their own life. Either, as a result of being rejected by a former lover.
As well as being a closeted homosexual and afraid of the backlash from unapproving parents, on their sexual or racial dating preference. Along with having feelings of hopelessness, compounded with despair, can become a bad cocktail for many already confused young men and women into taking their lives.
Leaving loved ones and friends caught off guard by the death of a son, daughter, mother or father. It’s a strange action that I know I can’t ever get used to.
It appears that the actions all mirror each other in some ways.
Suicide and suicidal thoughts, as well as suicidal behaviour, have been commonplace within societies for as long as we’ve had communities. Even with that sort of rationalisation it still doesn’t make It any easier to cope with the loss of a loved one.
